The tour begins in Plaza de la Marina, in front of the Tourist Office. Here, the guide introduces the group and provides context, explaining how Málaga reclaimed land from the sea and how this shaped the port and the current city center.
From there, the tour enters Calle Larios, Málaga’s most famous shopping street. Along this stretch, the guide recounts how the Larios family came to lend their name to the street and why it was built as a stately thoroughfare, as well as its role as a frequent venue for celebrations and events.
The next stop is the Atarazanas Market, where the guide explains what the Atarazanas were during the Muslim era and how their function changed over the centuries. The origin of the name and its role as a commercial space are also explained.
The tour continues through Plaza Félix Sáenz, explaining who Félix Sáenz was and why he is associated with the modernization of commerce in Málaga, linking it to the building and its impact on the city’s daily life.
Next, the tour passes by the Church of San Juan, where the origin of the church and its relationship to the city’s transformation after the Christian conquest are explained, as well as how these buildings have changed their use over time.
In the area around the Thyssen Museum, the building is used as an example of how a former palace in the city center has been adapted to different uses, highlighting the museum’s current role within Málaga’s cultural offerings.
The route continues to the Church of the Holy Martyrs, where the guide contextualizes its history and its connection to the neighborhood and the city’s religious and festive life.
The tour then arrives at Plaza de la Constitución, one of Málaga’s central squares. Here, the tour explains how many names it has had throughout the centuries and why it has always been a key location for public events and social life.
The tour concludes at the Cervantes Theatre, with an explanation of its role as Málaga’s premier performance venue and its connection to the city’s cultural life, including the Film Festival. Depending on events taking place in the streets, the tour may end at the Cervantes Theatre or in the vicinity of Plaza de la Constitución.
