Alcazaba and Roman Theatre Tour Malaga
This guided tour, lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes, explores two of the most important sites in this part of Málaga’s city center. The tour begins at the Roman Theatre, which represents one of the city’s oldest periods. Here, you’ll gain a better understanding of its main features, its uses, and the time it lay hidden underground until its rediscovery.
The tour then continues inside the Alcazaba, a fortress that played a crucial role in the defense of Málaga. The ascent reveals defensive entrances, sections where Roman materials were reused, and the upper part of the enclosure, where the capture of 1487, life within the fortress, and its internal layout are explained.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION BEFORE BOOKING YOUR TOUR ALCAZABA AND ROMAN THEATRE
COMPLETE ITINERARY FROM THE ROMAN THEATRE TO THE PALACES OF THE ALCAZABA.
The visit begins at the Roman Theatre. In this first section, you’ll see the seating area and the proscenium, and learn about the building’s origins, its function in Roman times, and the period it remained hidden until its restoration.
From there, the tour enters the Alcazaba through the main gate and begins the ascent inside. This section reveals the winding entrances and the first defensive points of the enclosure, linked to the capture of Málaga in 1487 and the way the fortress was protected.
The route continues past the Temboury Tower, the Gate of the Columns, Neighborhood Ascent, the Arch of Christ, and the Barbican Tower. Along this stretch, you’ll see remnants of Roman materials reused in the construction, as well as traces of the neighborhood that occupied the Alcazaba in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The final part of the tour takes place in the palace area. Here, you’ll visit the silo, the spring, the Courtyard of the Orange Trees, and the Courtyard of the Pool. This section shows how food was stored, where the water came from, and how life was organized within the fortress. The visit ends at the highest point of the Alcazaba, in the palace area.
