On this guided visit, the thread is understanding why these buildings and squares exist, what they originally were, and how their use has changed over the centuries.
Along the walk, the guide links together places such as Calle Larios, Atarazanas, the area around Félix Sáenz, San Juan, the Thyssen Museum, Santos Mártires, Plaza de la Constitución and the Teatro Cervantes to explain the city's urban and commercial evolution, including common questions such as how Málaga gained land from the sea or why some areas are more lit up than others.
The route lasts 2 hours and focuses on the historic centre. The order may vary due to events in the city, but the stops stay the same so the thread of the tour remains consistent.
The visit starts at Plaza de la Marina, opposite the Tourist Office. Here the guide introduces the group and sets the scene, explaining how Málaga gained land from the sea and how that shapes the port and today's city centre.
From there you enter Calle Larios, Málaga's best-known shopping street. In this stretch you'll learn how the Larios family came to give their name to the street and why it was built as a grand thoroughfare, as well as its role as the usual setting for celebrations and events.
The next stop is the Atarazanas Market, where you'll learn what Atarazanas was in Muslim times and how its use changed over the centuries. The origin of the name and its role as a trading space are put into context.
The tour continues to Plaza Félix Sáenz to tell the story of who Félix Sáenz was and why he's linked to the modernisation of trade in Málaga, tying that in with the building and its impact on the city's everyday life.
You then pass by the Church of San Juan, where the origin of the building and its connection to the city's transformation after the Christian conquest are explained, along with how these buildings have changed use over time.
Around the Thyssen Museum, the building is used as an example of how a former palace in the centre has been adapted to different uses, placing the museum's current role within Málaga's cultural offering.
The route continues to the Church of the Santos Mártires, where the guide gives context on its history and its ties to the neighbourhood and to the city's religious and festive life.
You then reach Plaza de la Constitución, one of Málaga's central spaces. Here you'll learn how many names it's had over the centuries and why it's always been a key spot for public events and social life.

Depending on events taking place in the streets, the finish may be at the Teatro Cervantes or in the area around Plaza de la Constitución.
