This guided visit covers two of the most important sites in this part of central Málaga in 1 hour 30 minutes. The route starts at the Roman Theatre, home to one of the oldest chapters in the city's history, where you'll get a clearer picture of its main parts, how it was used and how long it stayed hidden underground before being uncovered.
The visit then continues inside the Alcazaba, a fortress that played a decisive role in defending Málaga. The climb takes in defensive access points, sections where Roman materials were reused, and the upper part of the site, where the 1487 conquest, life inside the fortress and how the space was organised inside are all explained.
The visit starts at the Roman Theatre. In this first stretch you'll see the tiered seating and the proscenium area, along with the origin of the building, its role in Roman times and how long it stayed hidden before it was uncovered.
From there, the route enters the Alcazaba through its access gate and the climb inside begins. Here you'll come across the zigzagging entrances and the fortress's first defensive points, tied to the 1487 conquest of Málaga and how the fortress was protected.
The route continues through the Temboury Tower, the Gate of the Columns, the Subida del Barrio, the Arco del Cristo and the Barbican Tower. Along this stretch you'll see reused Roman material in the construction, as well as traces of the neighbourhood that occupied the Alcazaba in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The final part takes place in the palace area. There you'll take in the silo, the site where the water source rose, the Patio de los Naranjos and the Patio de la Alberca. This stretch shows how food was stored, where the water came from and how life was organised inside the fortress. The visit ends at the highest point of the Alcazaba, in the palace area.

The visit is offered in Spanish and English. Each group does the route in its own language and languages are not mixed on the same departure.

The visit starts on Calle Alcazabilla, opposite the Hermandad del Sepulcro and next to the glass pyramid.
The full route is not accessible. The climb has slopes, cobbled sections and steps. Pushchairs can be left at the entrance if they don't contain valuables. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot make the climb due to the terrain.
